Author Topic: never realized 8 man football is very different then regular football  (Read 1509 times)

i just moved to michigan and this new school is pretty large and has a bigger football team then my old school which played 8 man football (which is pretty weak). i didn't even think that it would be so different. i never knew of the 400-900 plays and the way you break it down in a huddle is different too.

anyone else know if its just a difference in coaches, or are the plays actually that different between 8 man and regular?

that sounds like -

y'know what, i think you know

ya football i know

Don't most sports require an exact number of people on each side?

uh
yes
8 man football requires 8 people

Is your football regular football as in 11 on a field?
Also, different schools have different stuff. I went up against this school who thought they were really cool and rich, and every player on the field had the plays on a notecard strapped to their arm. the coach just yelled out a color and a number and everyone was able to check what play it was, they were obviously too cool for a huddle.
Huddles and plays can be different too. I don't think there's many plays that are the same for different schools, coaches like to keep things their own so the other team doesn't know what they're up against.
And breaking it down in a huddle decides on what position you are. I was a Right Guard which was pretty easy because our players, an example is

This is 881 35 Power.
To break this down, I'm (describes Me) is the right guard, X is center, you see Half Back and Full Back. On hike, I pull to the left. I go into the 5 hole, seeing 35. We divide the space between a blocker in numbers, to the left of the X is 1, to the left of the Left Guard is 3, and the other linebacker is 5. I run to that hole.
The other numbers, 881, is for the X Y Z Receivers. I don't really know much about that stuff, but I don't have to worry.
It's good to know what your team mates are doing, but mainly focus on what you're role is. If you're like the Quarter Back you might wanna step up your go, but if you're just a linebacker or a Guard, or even a center, don't worry. Hope this helps.

going off of that then i would guess it doesn't have to do with the difference in numbers, but the difference in coaches.

like an example of a simple run just showing recievers:

this is an 800 Post Dig, which is a twins, and since evens are always left, that puts two receivers left and a tight end on the right and another wide out on the right. the Post Dig means that the wide out  on both sides will be running a post, which is basically just going in towards the post, and that the slot would be running dig, which is going in five yards and then planting straight out.

there are six different lineups and then about 10 different runs for receivers, all of those being passes. you don't really need to know anything other then those offense wise, because for runs all receivers do is block.

and thats my current team, whereas my old team was a lot different in plays and positioning.

Sounds pretty decent. How about for defense? Is your lineup any different? For us we do a 'rack' and have the nose in the front, tackles (i was right tackle) , ends, and so forth, the coach would bark to someone a defensive play and we'd do it. It would usually be like Base 52 or something, which would only intervene with the eh.. Half and Full backs? I dunno it's been awhile but we have defensive plays also.

as a reciever, the two main lineups are Cover 2 and Cover 3

Cover 2 is two safeties and two corners. the safties play deep half and the corners play flats. Cover 3, there are only two corners and one safety, and the corners still play flats, but the safety plays deep third. Cover 3 is usually only if we read a weird play and we need another man up on the line. other then that is just your basic lineman lineup with your tackles and nose and so on.

entire topic confuses me
its ok, my first day was a lot of "what the forget are you doing"'s and pushups
