Most definitely a sitar. While they normally ARE high and pierce-y, like any stringed instrument, it can be tuned down. Which is what I believe is shown here.

Because of it's strange use, it would be kinda hard to find a tuned-down sitar. You might be able to find it in Tibetan or Shamanic meditation music.

It's a bass. Like I said. Double Bass's are just "huge cellos" if you want to think of it like that though. He just probably played high notes on it.

Totally different strings and notes.

Same clef though.

And yes it was obviously a double bass.

I don't play a string instrument; to me their all the exact same thing only different sizes.
