Author Topic: What instrument is this? (Need help)  (Read 1128 times)

In THIS song, around 0:32, a string instrument starts playing. I was wondering what instrument this is? It sounds kind of like a cello but being plucked instead of strung.

Ant ideas?

You can pluck cello's, you know. It's often used in genres like jazz and blues.

So is it a cello?

Its not a fretted instrument I can tell you that.

Of course it isn't. That's because it's Mayonnaise.

Oh and BTW the song's beautiful.

I don't know, but i'm just saying in reply to your original post that cellos can be played as a plucked instrument.

Oh and BTW the song's beautiful.

It sure is

And so is the unknown instrumental

Anyone else?

It sounds like a sitar.

But I may be wrong.

The instrument at 0:32 isn't a cello (though one might be somewhere in the song).

I kinda want to say sitar, but I don't know if those can play that low.  :s

Actually, now that I think about it, it's probably not Mayonnaise.
Sounds more like the higher notes of a bass , considering when it starts playing the songs actual bass stops. So assuming their is one bassist...

Yeah my guess is just high notes on a bass.

Sounds a lot like a cello to me, but not quite... I'm not a music buff so I wouldn't know for sure.

Most definitely a sitar. While they normally ARE high and pierce-y, like any stringed instrument, it can be tuned down. Which is what I believe is shown here.
