Because laptops are not meant for gaming and you won't be able to get a good performance laptop, the best thing you can get is a Macbook. Anything else is just kind of mediocre.

Let me give you a tip.
Laptops generally aren't the greatest for gaming. If you want to play games on a laptop, Alienware is the place to go, but Alienware costs double the amount of money than the equivalent desktop that you custom built.
Source: I had a computer built for me that would have cost £1500 to buy from Alienware that actually cost £800 to custom build.

To comfortably have a table for the monitor, keyboard, and mouse, as well as room for a nice chair to sit on... I don't think "standing" room is enough. 

He wants a laptop, so why are we all telling him that desktops are better?  It's irrelevant.

I got the same specs as this computer for $1000 less. At the time I bought mine, this was was $2200 refurbished.
