Can anyone open Garry's Mod through Steam?

Every single time I try, it just opens the "Preparing to launch" window and then closes, with no error message whatsoever. I need to do a project on it that is due tomorrow, so I really need some help here.

This is not just you, I just tried and nope, closes and opens update news which opens when the game closes.

TF2 works for me, but Gmod just stops. It says "syncing..." right next to the name in the Library, but stops about a half second later.

No, I actually have a project focusing on center of gravity for my physics class. Basically me balancing anchors and desks and stuff.
