Author Topic: Can you find a way to make a sentence where you can't replace the word "got"?  (Read 2224 times)

you're going to all this trouble for a measly 10 bucks?

you have GOT to be kidding me.
Also works as "You have to be kidding me"
Sorry.

You can't put the verb in a contraction. It sounds stupid because it's grammatically incorrect.
What on Earth are you talking about?! "I'm," "it's," "they're," etc. are all contractions with verbs.

EDIT: "Am," "is," and "are," are all conjugations of the verb "to be," if you were wondering.

I realized that after posting actually. Good one :)
It's redundant, again, so it might not count.

Sorry.
you didn't replace it, you removed it entirely.

"you must be kidding me" would replace the words "got" and "have"

he might as well ask his teacher about it anyways.

Ive read the word "got" enough times in this thread to realize that is just doesn't look right to me.

But yeah. You can't really replace "Got" with anything without it not being able to flow properly. Some words in some sentences will work, but most will sound strange.

synonyms exist for a reason
sorry mate but it's impossible

You have obtained the Sword of Might!

You have achieved the next level!

You've been granted a new weapon!

You've been blessed with a new item!

You caught the mighty Swordfish!

You've recovered the lost artifact!

You now possess the mighty Excalibur!

You can't put the verb in a contraction. It sounds stupid because it's grammatically incorrect.
You've never seen anything like that?

What is I've a contraction of?

The past tense of "Get er done." is "Got er did." and you can't replace "got" in that sentence.

A definition is almost never a sentence, and it's especially not a sentence in that case.
