Author Topic: Can you find a way to make a sentence where you can't replace the word "got"?  (Read 2243 times)

It's not redundant, the grammar is fine.
"I've it" is not correct
but yeah "I have it" would work ):
That would change the meaning.
It would have to become "I've received it!"

i got it and i have it both mean the same thing....

some context:
>trying to think of something
>on the tip of your tongue
>you remember it
"I've got it" or "I have it" would both work and mean the same thing

I was thinking in the context of receiving a physical object.

"I've it" is exactly the same as "I have it," contractions don't change the meaning.
And it is redundant, since "have" and "got" mean the same thing in that context.

It's not possible. The word "got" derives from several other words. You should stop trying guys. His teacher planned this out well.

bro if you go around saying "I've it" you're gonna look like a real big idiot

"I've it!" is just as correct. Or "I have it!" if you don't wanna sound dumb.

bro if you think "I've it" is grammatically correct you're gonna look like a real big idiot
there's a reason people never say it

you're going to all this trouble for a measly 10 bucks?

you have GOT to be kidding me.

It is grammatically correct, it just sounds stupid, which is why no one says it.

Well the teacher hasn't had anyone find the correct answer in her 12 years of teaching. So I want to go down in history

You can't put the verb in a contraction. It sounds stupid because it's grammatically incorrect.
