Historians declare that the ship that they found was the ancient sailing vessel known as Breyr-Nokt, a Royal pleasure ship.  Aboard it is found the skeletons of the royal family of Hrorthgar IV, who ruled Svernland from 833 to 846, when the family's vessel ran aground in the middle of an ocean voyage.  It ran aground in the Doldrums, and signs show that the crew and family starved to death before running aground; the ship could have been drifting for weeks, even months.

I believe that the area southeast of the Svernlandian Isles are open.  Maybe that bit of land far southwest.  I do know that Avalonia has expanded, so it's likely that not all of the land may be open.  Just consult Plethora, I guess.
