A quick question about GTA IV and the expansion packs

If you buy TBoGT and TLaD, and say, do the story and stuff with the normal GTA IV, can you use the weapons and stuff from the other things, or do you have to use the story thing that has it?

Each story has it's special weapons, for example; if you want the big-ass machine gun you have to play TBoGT and if you want a double barrel shotgun then you have to play TLaD
