I'm using windows 8, all updates installed, and that has never happened to me. Most likely you got some nasty little virus or the registry fixer you installed forgeted something up.
My personal opinion on that: NEVER EVER USE A REGISTRY FIXER EVER EVER EVER.
The only time you will ever need to edit the registry is for very specific events or you know what the hell you are doing. Messing with your registry can cause all sorts of stuff to happen, your computer manages your registry just fine and dandy on its own. NEVER EVER.
