Would it be possible to make an onActivate event that would require the player to hold his fire key for a certain amount of time in order for the event to trigger?

I think there might be an event already like this on RTB
otherwise you can use VCE to check if they're still clicking after a small delay

Really? How do you do that with VCE? I never knew that was possible.
