what version of linux should i put on my laptop

Fedora with XFCE runs half-well on my Dell Latitude D610. Yum is slow and NetworkManager needs some tweaking to get it to stop disconnecting randomly. I haven't tried it with Fedora 19 yet but I can only assume it's the same.

I installed xubuntu and it seems to run way better than windows vista ever did

the only problem is that directx is a windows thing and I either have to play in visual glitches for everyone or 5 fps with wine
