Author Topic: Huge earth sky?  (Read 1453 times)

Can someone make a sky add-on that covers the WHOLE sky, as if you were in a space station?

Like, so there is just a little bit of black around the edges?

(For an example, look out the windows of the Call of Duty space station.)

I believe it's already been made.

You do realize that if only a little bit of black were present, then the earth would be concave and dominate the sky, despite that not being possible - it is mathematically impossible for the earth to exceed half of the sphere of visibility surrounding you.  If the earth was flat, and your eyes were exactly on the ground, then the earth would hide half of the sphere.  But, the earth curves away from view, and you have a height when standing, so the earth can never exceed half of the sphere.  As such, when you are up in space, the earth would cover very little of the sphere of visibility surrounding you.

I believe it's already been made.

Conclusion: It is not possible to do.

?

It's not physically possible without either making the earth look like an inside-out disaster.

Or a torus!

Yeah I could render an earth skybox from the distance of the International Space Station but it would look rather boring and blurry:

Open that image in full screen. Fairly close to what you would see in Blockland.
