Author Topic: Replay System  (Read 1027 times)

Any of you ever played Driver or its sequels?  There is a feature called film director where you edit some recent footage that you have done in order to make a video.

Not sure on how this would work, but I was kind of wondering if such a feature could be made available for Blockland.  Most recent suggestions somewhat relevant to this were from 2008.  I know there are ways to get good videos with outside sources (so you can post on youtube and stuff), but first of all, I don't know which program
is better, second, my limited Internet usage, and third, I just think there should be an in-game way of managing replays.

Features would include locked cameras, vehicle cams, cameras that follow a player, exporting videos, and a saving system that allows you to save some number of replays, which save into a folder within the Blockland files.

To sum it all up, the request is for an editable and exportable replay system that takes recent footage (like the past minute or two of everything you have done).

isn't this impossible with torque?

this would be cool, great if you needed evidence for a drama topic, or just want to record BL's horrible vehicle physics for fun.

There are ways to modify the engine to allow for recording in ".rec" format, but ".rec" is unreliable and only records a movement macro.

This is one of those suggestions that can only be done by Badspot.

As a replay system in torque would probably require some engine modifications.

Ah ok I guess that will never happen lulz. Fun dream while it lasted though ;o

it could probably be done but it's hard to guarantee whether or not it'd be terrible

wasn't there one a long time ago?
in a menu button called "demos" or something?

yeah

i head that the file limits would be pretty big

Yeah i believe so, but it didn't work for me so i never got to use it.

Yeah it was there by default but it never worked in any of the TGE games i played
Probably a really old feature that got broken but never completely removed

It works in Marble Blast, and it used this format:

server sided, you could log literally every action, exactly when it happens, where it happens, what happens, and who does it, then make bots that do the stuff, reconstructing stuff.

it would be a monumental project, and most definitely not flawless, but still pretty cool.

also not exactly what you wanted, but if you recorded... a block of time... you could literally repeat that time like a stable time loop.

i made a script that did this once, but it was made for rewinding time rather than creating replays like this

it worked pretty well and the performance impact wasn't terrible aside from the obvious memory usage
