Author Topic: Making a game, what Language?  (Read 2312 times)

I hate how LUA reads but its supposed to be a good language
*Lua. Excuse me if I sound like a smartass, but Lua is not an acronym. Do not treat it as such.

Luna means Moon in Portuguese. I honestly don't think that C is a good starter programming language. Why did I put pokemon before?

C++
If you know the language, use this.
C# using XNA is decent. I wouldn't recommend it, but it's good for starters. Lots of tutorials out there. It also allows easy xbox support. Good luck with you game! I am currently working on an android game. It's a lot of fun and you can learn a lot about a language.

There's a difference between "possible" and "advisable"
There is, but I didn't use either of those words. I said viable, which is the perfect mix of possible and advisable. Writing a game in JavaScript can be really easy if you use a JS game engine. Much easier than most of the other languages he listed.

I wasn't saying it was impossible in general, though. specifically for ducky duck
but I have a hard time believing he could make anything right now, in any language
I don't see why you quoted JS then, that just seems weird. If you'd quoted C++ it'd make sense, because C++ is a difficult language to grasp as a beginner without much computer theory behind you.

don't care

OT:

Gameboy Advance games are written in C, and the SDK has been leaked(*) so it's possible to use that as your platform, that's what my friend and I did

a lot of console developers from that era made their debut on the GBA platform; it's generally considered a good starting point

it's also the reason why there's a disproportionate amount of horrible GBA games

*GBA is dead so its SDK is considered abandonware, and iirc nintendo actually released it themselves
