Author Topic: how to host a dedicated server with steam?  (Read 4134 times)

I PM'd you the answer now. I am limited in helping with Steam authentication because if I reveal too much, people will make a hosting service.
people will make a hosting service to compete with yours?
seriously are you worried about competition?
im not going to loving release your method

you sound like if someone makes something to compete with yours and its somehow better, you wont get any money?
thats kinda sad and douchey

You already said how you did it though. Stop being weird about it.

Okay then just give Maxx the link to that. I don't have the time to find it.

he didnt explain
hes acting like he has some secret shady stuff going on and he doesnt want to release his "master plan"
of some sort
hammer, you seriously said make 2 files and nothing else
i dont know what the other file is or whatnot and how you did what you were explaining

You first make a new dedicated.bat which has the -steam argument. After that, you create a file called "steam_appid.txt" (I think) which has the Steam appID of Blockland. Then you make sure Steam is running, and run the dedicated.bat.

It's ok to be paranoid about it. At least he helped you.

neat
i put -steam in a bat file and made the app id and the dedicated bat file didnt do anything
:O
i understand why your paranoid about it though
but nobodys probably going to have the time to create a hosting server unless they dedicate themself to it
look at saxophones hosting service
that got off to only being 2 months old and it died

Side thought: I have a plan to put multiple Steam users on the same machine. It's ugly and inefficient, but it should theoretically work.

Yeah, but I have a plan to put multiple Steam users on the same machine. It's ugly and inefficient, but it should theoretically work.
thats what im not asking
im just asking how to make a dedi with steam
@echo off
steam_appid.txt -dedicated -steam
this is what i have
quote me and edit it to what you think it should be please
i have no idea what im doing wrong

I think it is

START steam_appid.txt -dedicated -steam

I think it is

START steam_appid.txt -dedicated -steam
that just opens the text file

No, you can't execute a text file...

Just place that steam_appid file (containing "250340") in your Blockland folder. Then put "start Blockland.exe ptlaxobimwroe -dedicated -steam" in a .bat file.

p.s., did I get the secret code (ptlaxobimwroe) right? That was just from memory; didn't want to look it up.

"please run the game via blocklandlauncher.exe"
i dont think you got it right or something idfk

ptlaaxobimwroe. You missed an A.
