Author Topic: I just got $1000 for a laptop, what should I get?  (Read 6114 times)

Yeah but MSI is known for making notebooks from really crappy material and poor ventilation. I've heard a lot of bad things about their computers.
I'll be checking it out in a local shop in a couple days and I'll definitely bring this up, thanks.

If the shop has multiple brands, check out the Lenovo Y50. The lower end model of it costs $850. I recently sold my Y510p (and I mean today on ebay) I got and I'm gonna upgrade the Y50 UHD for $1,400. I'm pretty excited, it's really sleek laptop.

I got an MSI instead of a desktop for school reasons, and although I am pretty happy with it, it does heat up pretty quickly and can't seem to run a lot of recent games at good framerates. I'm probably going to get a cooling pad soon to help with that, but I thought I'd just let you know. Mine is the GX70 3BE.

Unfortunately I can't get a lenovo y510p anywhere here in canada without paying over $100 in shipping fees which is a deal breaker for me, so it's not an option.

Yeah like I said i'll definitely be bringing that up in a couple days, it's Canada day tomorrow so they aren't gonna be open lol

Yeah MSI laptops perform very well but they always seem to have a lot of other technical issues regarding heating and durability. Performance means nothing if your laptop is falling apart.

I've always had bad experiences with lenovos. The ones I've used were very poorly made.

On the other hand, my $300 eMachines laptop is still going strong after around five years and it's my primary computer. Very sturdy, well-built machine. eMachines was acquired by Pavilion, which was then acquired by Acer. I recommend Acer laptops - their Acer Aspire line is based on the old eMachines.

I've had a stuffty experience with acer. Honestly though I don't think the brand matters as much as people are saying. Everyone has a different experience.

I actually almost got the Acer g750 a few months ago but got the Lenovo. The only thing that drove me away was the loving massive size and weight of it. 13 pounds is ridiculous.

IDK, my laptop feels pretty solidly built. It's all metal and plastic, nothing really feels flimsy.

I had an Acer Aspire laptop that ran me a good 3 years. After that the charging board failed. My stance on Acer is neutral.
