Author Topic: Modern Warfare 2 - Was it the closest?  (Read 660 times)

This topic is basically my opinion about what MW2 could have been, including what I think it's major flaws are and how they could have been fixed.

With other CoD games in consideration, and having played this game a whole lot, here are the things I find wrong with MW2 and how to fix them.

The BIG flaws:
These flaws are game-changing and/or large parts of the game.
  • Killstreaks are a bit too easy to get
->This could easily be fixed by doing one of the following:  1) Making the killstreaks non-stackable 2) Raising the required kills/points needed to reach a streak (basically like BO2)
->The feeling of getting kills with your killstreaks is the best feeling, in my opinion, in MW2, but it's just not challenging enough. I find myself reaching a predator missile and pretty much automatically getting my harrier from it, and then the harrier gets a few kills and I have my chopper or AC-130.
  • Spawns
->Really doesn't need an explanation. This game is notorious for spawning the player you just killed right around the corner so he can easily get revenge on you.
->I've always thought of the spawning system working if it had a list of priorities. They would go in this order:
            1) Spawn the player as far away as possible from the player who just killed him
            2) Then away from the enemy team
            3) Then near the most concentrated area of teammates
->So basically, the priorities would be giving you that 5-10 second window of not being able to kill or be killed while keeping you close to the action, unlike spawning in the corner of Wasteland and having to run for 20 seconds back into the fight.
  • Playing the objective is not rewarding enough
->This could be fixed by implementing scorestreaks where you get points for actually doing the objective
  • Nuke
->At the LEAST make it not end the game (however I would not at all be opposed to taking it out all together). Domination is one of my favorite gamemodes, and I absolutely despise losing to a nuke when my team was winning the game by tons of points. This also goes along with rewarding players for the wrong things when there is an objective. I sometimes use a class with a riot shield and a stinger just to show players that it's not always about kills. I've gone 0-20 in kills but still been in the top 3-4 in points in the whole lobby.
  • Danger Close/grenade launchers
->I'm just going to put these two together because you rarely see one without the other. Danger Close should simply not be a perk. It's a good idea, but there's no good way to execute it unless you weaken all explosives so DC actually makes them noticeably effective.
->As for grenade launchers:  absolutely game-changing. I know that there are perks and attachments, and sometimes certain weapons that make you a better player, like Stopping Power killing your opponent quicker, but grenade launchers are over the top. You know when you survive a grenade launcher explosion because they aren't using Danger Close? That should be the maximum damage/range it can do. They are effective enough as is, but when you slap on Danger Close, it's ridiculous.

The ANNOYING flaws:
These flaws don't necessarily change the game, but are annoying and/or dumb ideas.
  • Commando
->I'm absolutely fine with this perk being in the game, but it's just too effective. Knifing in general needs to be nerfed. It should be a factor in a close-combat fight, but it shouldn't win out nearly every time. If knifing in general was difficult like other CoD games, and Commando made knifing decent, it would be perfect. You should not be able to launch yourself across a room and stab someone.
  • Quickscoping
->This isn't necessarily a flaw as much as it is an opinion, but to me it's a flaw. For one, it's too easy. You can scope in super fast with Sleight of Hand and it's too accurate immediately after scoping in. I never quickscope in games, nor do I want to, but I have jumped into games with and Intervention and quickscoped and found that I can do really good.
->Don't get me wrong, quickscoping is part of the game and probably will be in all future CoD's but there is a place for it. I hate seeing it in public matches, especially getting killed by it. My Vector should beat your intervention when we are 10 feet from each other 99.9% of the time. I am fine with people doing it in private matches, but keep it out of public matches. I guess it's okay in FFA and TDM where killing is the objective, but that's as far as I'd like to see it.
  • Shotguns are too good for being secondaries
->All of the shotguns, especially the Spas-12, are basically second primaries. If they were classified as primaries like other CoD's it would be perfect.
  • Deathstreaks
->This is almost entirely directed towards Painkiller, as well as Last Stand a little bit. Basically, your deathstreak should not give you an advantage over another player in a 1v1 situation. There shouldn't be a boost of speed or an increase in health. It's not fair to the opposing player, especially if they had no part in your deathstreak.

The little flaws:
  • C4
->I'm completely fine with C4 being in the game, just GET RID OF THE DOUBLE TAP X. It like throwing a package of death at your enemies. If the double tapping X was taken out, and you could only set off the C4 with the clicker thing, it would be perfect.
  • Sentry gun should not require sending in a care package
->It's just too much of a hassle for me.
  • One Man Army should be limited
        ->3 uses per life, max.

Now imagine if the 5 big flaws were fixed, and maybe a few of the other ones below them, like Commando and the shotguns. To me, this would be hands down the best Call of Duty as far as multiplayer gameplay. To me, what scared away a lot of players were the things that could have easily been fixed. I don't understand why they insisted on keeping them they way they were.

What do you guys think? Have anything I can add? I know I am missing some things, but I do think I got pretty much all the major flaws down. Anything you disagree with?

The community could be better.
Well, there's nothing that can be done about that. You can always just ignore people and play the game by yourself or with your own friends.

Besides, this topic is mainly about the game itself and not those who play it.

I play competitive BO2 still and I find it to be the best COD

although there's a lot to be refined, it's the closest to this "dream", not MW2.

how to make every future cod better: keep the javelin. best forgetin' weapon man.
