Author Topic: are these computer parts good?  (Read 3093 times)

i'd like tokthree to know im going to be purchasing the parts he recommended. I reviewed them more.

next time i research a build ill use a partpicker website or open my sources to more than just newegg.

I wouldn't get the 9600GT. The video chipset is over 5 years old + it won't run shaders at any decent FPS. I used to use a 9600GT. Go with something better. Use this website to compare video cards. http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php

O yea, and the 9600GT is out of stock too. Another reason why not to get it.
Everything else looks better than what I have, so I guess it's ok.

i already own it.

isn't there a computer megathread for this kind of stuff?

yes but that thread is slow.

i've modified tokthrees list and added the six-core due to the fact it's cheaper + more power

Please listen to me, the FX 6XXX CPU you've chosen has a lower per-core clock speed than the FX 4350, you'll be getting less power out of the hexacore than you would get out of the quad-core. You can host servers off a quadcore with no issues whatsoever, what matters more with server hosting is your RAM and your upload speed. Hosting a minecraft server on my secondary PC with an old Athlon II 2.9Ghz dual-core barely uses more than 30% of my CPU. You won't get anything out of a hexacore except a lower clock-speed and an older architecture, resulting in worse gaming performance.

This one still ranks higher, barely. ^

Those are the links I've found. I can overclock the 6300 anyways to basically match the 4350 on core speed. It's also cheaper like I said. It can't be much worse than the 4350 if you're right. I already ordered it along with the motherboard and GPU you recommended.

While tomshardware is a reputable site, their forums are pretty much trash. This thread is far from the worst I've seen, but it's literally just someone's opinion on the forum, with their assertion that you can overclock, which is a different beast. Sad to say, this is your strongest source.

This literally tells you nothing useful. Unless of course you can quantify the use of some more L2 cache for your specific cpu workloads

EUGH. Similar to the one rykuta linked, sites like this compare on-paper specs and synthetic benchmarks as well as other bullstuff factors that don't even have linear relationships with performance (see clockspeed, core count, etc).

Same as above

I'm not saying tokthree is right because I actually don't know that much about AMD processors in terms of performance (even though he probably is), I'm just saying your sources prove nothing.

It's their opinion but apparently he's had experience with this AMD processor and said he's had no trouble running modern games.

But that doesn't necessarily mean that the 4350 will have trouble either, he's only owned the one. Since you're buying your parts new, and you have the opportunity to buy the one that represents the best value for your money, why not figure it out before you actually buy your parts

oh well im not saying that. They could generally be equal, but the price is $20 cheaper and i've read that people have had great success with this CPU. I've researched what parts I've wanted to buy for a long time. But I'm not building a new rig all together. I have RAM, HDD, Case, and PSU already.
