Author Topic: Nonrotatable topdown camera. SOLVED  (Read 1618 times)

The topdown player except the camera doesn't rotate when you rotate. Think of zelda.

Having this as an event is suitable for my purpose, if that makes it easier.

Okay to explain further:

What I want is a playertype or an event that will give me a topdown camera, that doesn't rotate when the player rotates.

Notice how the player's rotation is independent to the camera? Something like this would be cool, but a better camera angle might be this:

Notice how it's still somewhat a topdown view, but you can see the side of your player? That would be cool too.

An addon that could help you create this is the 2d camera event. If you decide to use this it would be cool if you were to make the camera orientation editable, like have north west east south options and perhaps a checkbox to choose which of the above camera angles you want. Though this customization is not necessary. Please make this.

This does exactly that. It doesn't include an up direction, but you achieve it by setting the degrees to 90, I believe.

Edit: also, reread your last post on having it at an angle. You can achieve any angle with the mod. Have fun!

How then would you define the direction the camera is facing in the first place?

...by defining it? Maybe make it an rtb pref? Or offset x a bit so you see a tiny bit of the side of the player?

Well I mean now suppose you want to change the direction of the player.  For instance you have a puzzle, but you want it to be solvable from a different angle.  Do you really want such rigid settings that can constrain a creator's possibilities?

Just use events to change it to a different playertype and/or camera.

I seriously need this for something and i'd rather not just make hundreds of named bricks just for the purpose of the camera, and the current top down camera looks kinda weird with the rotating camera. Please.

If the creation being made is specifically for this camera or playertype, then it's up to the creator to make sure it works with that view.

Asking this question is kind of like asking if you want to constrain a race track creator by not giving a car wings. The creation is designed for a certain type of restriction.

Nice.

Also props for adding it to the OP. Most people don't read past the OP and instantly go to replying, probably.

This should be possible one way or another. I don't know how pretty it would look, but it's defo possible.

Waitwaiwait. I swear, someone allowed this. It's called 2D events or something like that. Anyhow, you set a direction you want it to view the player and at what distance. The direction, down, is included I think...

Idk, I'm gonna look it up right now.

I have that mod, but it must have been an older version or something... I'll check it out!

EDIT: Oh my god it does exactly what I want. Thank you for bringing me this information.
