Author Topic: Wargame Airland Battle or Red Dragon?  (Read 1133 times)

so, as the title says, i've been kinda re-interested into the Wargame games, but right now i've only played European Escalation, which i've heard isn't as good as the other two games.

I'm also a bit worse at Wargame than others since I haven't played it too much, but i've still played it enough to kinda get the basics of it.

Also, the reason this wasn't posted in the Wargame Megathread is because it's been pretty much dead for the past few months and is locked.

EE was the best of the series. The community is pretty small though, when ALB came, most of them migrated from EE to ALB, then from ALB to RD.

RD is worst of the series. The Naval part is massive let down since the devs had everyone believing they would should a good part of each countries navy. Instead they only made a small portion of ships. The naval gameplay parts are also terrible, basically all you basically doing is blobbing large ships and spamming anti ship missiles while their AA guns blast the missiles out of the sky.

The unstoppable fighter jet spam was sort of fixed from ALB, but there are so many planes that just don't belong or left lacking.

Land warfare is kind of Meh as well, infantry meta is basically home many guys can cram into a city and camp, and special forces are too overpowered and render regular infantry useless. Tanks suffer from being overpriced and the abundance of cheap anti tank weapons which makes attacking harder than defending. 95% of the games consist of camping and spamming artillery and jets. Most of the maps consist of choke points such as cities, rivers, and bridges which makes defending more attractive than defending.

The game adds a few new countries South Korea(Alright), Japan(Cool, but meh), Australia(worthless), North Korea(campaign gimmick), and China(Artificially Gimped, campaign gimmick).

Single player also sucks, all they ai does is send a long line of units down a road while spamming planes and artillery at you.

The chat feature consists of people argueing about the F-35, national socialists/swastika spamming, Crimea, Russia vs EU, jokes about British tooth decay, and some other stuff.

The developers are French and they live up to the stereotypes of being lazy and childish. Personally I just think their publisher burnt them out, but community relations is one their weak points.

You would have more fun playing a game like Command and Conquer or Supreme Commander. If you are going to buy them both together, if you can only afford one then get RD since most of the community migrated to it. However I'd recommend not buying RD if you are new to wargame since the Tutorial is crap(EE had the best tutorial).
