Author Topic: Black Mesa is now on Steam  (Read 1239 times)

The original half life is 10. It only makes sense for a new version to be more.

If you don't like the price then don't buy it, if they feel like lowering the price they will

also may I just point this out:

just want to say its funny how much they changed their view on this.

Well, the half life anthology is 14 you get Half life 1 plus its two expansion packs and Team Fortress Classic. Valve also has a High Definition model pack you can download for it off the forums.

Currently Black Mesa is just a remake with new voices, new models, and more detailed maps and the lack of Xen. If you never played the first Half Life or never bought it, it might be a pretty good buy. However if you already have Half Life 1 and the source version, its pretty hard to justify buying the same game that is still in development.

That is probably why Valve is letting these guys sell their game in the first place.

If they offered some form of discount on it if you owned HL1 I would be fine with it tbh.

i think they should finish singleplayer before charging $20

All new voice acting
There's like six voice actors, and they're probably just buddies from the pub. I would actually argue that the original voices were far better.

music, sounds
The only fantastic part.

and models
High quality? Yeah. But they cut out significant portions of the original game. I don't think the model quality justifies the butchering of certain areas of the levels.

all by a team of 10ish people.
A similar sized team is making/made No Man's Sky. A far smaller team made the original concept for Portal. Counter-Strike and Team Fortress were both original mods works on by one or two people.

I personally don't think the price is justified. Unlike Stanley Parable where they added content, Black Mesa just renovates the existing content with shiny graphics and new audio, but in order to do it they had to chop out parts of the game. Furthermore, multiplayer Half-Life has existed for years; both in the form of Deathmatch AND in the popular mod "Synergy". Hell, I think even Garry's Mod is capable of loading Half-Life 1 maps for multiplayer.

Not for me, thanks.

NOTE: I'm not even considering Xen. Given how long it took them to get Black Mesa finished (which has a lot of resusable assets), it doesn't necessarily bother me.
