Author Topic: New Forum rule regarding RTB re-posts.  (Read 1044 times)

This has been an ongoing issue ever since RTB got removed, every few weeks, sometimes even days, there is a new post from a person who just registered , with just a repost to either DaProg's RTB or the RTB Archive.

Should it fall under the spam category, even if its days apart? I think it should.
I know these are new users but the fact is most of them only register to post one thread that usually just contains a link to DaProg's RTB or the archive.

Did I forget to mention the Archive is a sticky and that DaProg's RTB is also usually on the first page of the addon list?
There is no reason to repost something that is on page one.

I think there should be a new rule to not repost these links, some of the threads should also fall under the uploading a stolen addon rule as well, considering some of the threads the person who uploads it claims they made the addon, when its clearly Daprog's RTB.

These threads should be deleted if seen and if there is a penalty for this type of thing it should be a ban of 1 day.

Edit: 2 Said no, explain yourselves please.

Accidentally hit no, but I can't do the poll again

There needs to be a sticky post with links for people like me who can't find the posts. done and done.

As zero said, the rtb archives are stickied

I don't think this will accomplish anything
You say they register just to post that one thread
If that's the case, then banning them will just give you a banned user who can't post, rather than an inactive user who doesn't post. The end result is the same: a user who doesn't post

Honestly, I don't think any amount of rules and banning is going to help the fact that a game like this attracts a lot of children,  who tend to be new to places like forums.

How about something like not being able to make new threads in the add-ons section until you have a minimum amount of posts? I'm pretty sure it's a default SMF feature. Very few users register to the forums and right away want to post an original add-on, and those who do (alts) would quickly reach the minimum in other sections. You could argue it may encourage spamming, but then you'd have a legitimate reason to ban them

you do accomplish something, you have one less person that posts rtb archives

While this does sound like a good idea, that would just make "Eager users" spam other threads then post the addon.
That's ho its bypassed on other forums, it tends to work until the above starts happening.
