If heat is energy can't we just use global warming to power our homes?

i, too, have wondered if we could make fridges/ACs that actually generate energy
thing is, those devices CREATE a heat gradient, as would a theoretical global cooling/energy device
but generators USE a heat gradient

If you used the heat gradient to perform work, you would essentially be undoing everything you've done to condition the air...
