Author Topic: Climate change should now be considered an emergency  (Read 5727 times)

I'm not going to pay $50,000 for an electric car just because I should feel bad about the earth.
It's not just feeling bad. I live on a mountain and I still do all I can to conserve and reduce emissions. People's houses are going to be flooded by the thousands as the ice melts. Just because it isn't yours, or that it seems slow, doesn't mean you should not care either. There's a reason OP calls it an emergency.

i dont see why we should do anything if its natural XD
the problem is it ain't

why don't we just get a few freezers, dump ocean water in them, wait for it to cool and freeze, and dump it in the arctic??

This man is a genius, why don't we up it by putting more ice cubes in the arctic?

We're running out of oil, that'll fix some

why don't we just get a few freezers, dump ocean water in them, wait for it to cool and freeze, and dump it in the arctic??

All we need to do is get a lot of extension cords, a lot of refrigerators with ice dispensers in the doors, and then use bungee cords to hold the lever back so it keeps making ice. Infinite ice, problem solved.

while we're at it, why don't we just ask people with cancer to just stop having cancer?

"global warming is a scam"
yes and zebras arent real

belgium isn't real either.

in all serious global warming needs to be dealt with. wasn't there a machine built that can siphon carbon dioxide out of the air?

What doesn't kill everyone makes those who survive stronger.

Or they die.

laws of thermodynamics n00b

Yep, but it's really slow. IE nowhere near fast enough to put a dent in global warming, you'd have to make millions and spread them out all over the globe. They'd probably be most effective in places like Lianyungang, China.

Yes, that's smog. From factories.

i can feel the lung cancer from here

Oh boy, I expected something like this as soon as I saw the thread title.
Everyone who believes this has loving rocks in their head. Global warming is a scam. You think our tiny factories can do anything to the earth? ARE YOU loving KIDDING ME?

A person on the "team" for the "research" of global warming was a loving lunatic that thought the earth's population was getting too big and we should abort and kill our children.

HUMANS HAVE NO AFFECT ON THE EARTH, THE EARTH HAS BEEN PERFECTLY FINE FOR 4.5 BILLION YEARS.

LAST TIME A GLOBAL TEMPERATURE PROBLEM ACTUALLY HAPPENED THE TEMPERATURE WAS GETTING LOW.

I can believe people STILL believe this garbage. EDIT: I am not changing my opinion

Everyone who believes this has loving rocks in their head.
They're minerals, Marie.

You think our tiny factories can do anything to the earth?
They can impact our atmosphere and they have. Atmospheric carbon dioxide levels are higher than they've been in an incredibly long time, and the rate at which it's increasing cannot be accounted for by any known, natural cycles. This is just something we've measured and proved empirically. It's not even a theory or a law, it's just an observation.

A person on the "team" for the "research" of global warming was a loving lunatic that thought the earth's population was getting too big and we should abort and kill our children.
What you're saying here reflects a complete ignorance of how the scientific research process works. There is no 'research term' for global warming. There are scores and scores of climatologists throughout the world who work on their own research, usually within their own universities, and what we've come to recognize as human-driven climate change is a product of what we've observed happening within our own atmosphere as a result of our own actions.

Contrary to popular belief, science is not a process centered on the individual. A huge amount of research is conducted in collaborations between individual laboratories. Whether one person has questionable credibility is essentially irrelevant because they're just a small piece of the puzzle. Let's say a CERN physicist cheats on his wife, does that mean that the Higgs boson doesn't exist?

HUMANS HAVE NO AFFECT ON THE EARTH, THE EARTH HAS BEEN PERFECTLY FINE FOR 4.5 BILLION YEARS
Last I checked, pretty much all major fluctuations in Earth temperature have had disastrous effects on living creatures. The most recent example I can provide is the Quaternary Extinction Event, where disease, human hunting habits, and, you guessed it, increases in global temperature rendered tons of species extinct.

Of course, nothing's stopping you from saying that mass extinction events are a natural part of the world, but I don't think most people would willingly want to start one.

LAST TIME A GLOBAL TEMPERATURE PROBLEM ACTUALLY HAPPENED THE TEMPERATURE WAS GETTING LOW.
So? We know that Ice Ages have happened before. What's the relevance to human climate change?

I am not changing my opinion
Well, that's alright, but first, let's separate between the opinions and claims in your post.

These are your claims:
HUMANS HAVE NO AFFECT ON THE EARTH
You think our tiny factories can do anything to the earth?
Global warming is a scam

And these are your opinions:
THE EARTH HAS BEEN PERFECTLY FINE FOR 4.5 BILLION YEARS
Everyone who believes this has loving rocks in their head.

We've already established that your claims are bullstuff. You can try to refute it, but I don't think you have any of the experience needed to falsify well-researched science.

So as it stands, your opinions aren't really supported by anything. You really don't have any facts to base your opinions on, but you're holding on to them because you're stubborn and unwilling to adapt to new evidence.

I hope I don't have to explain why this is a problem.
