The 6000 series i7's are fantastic CPUs, and I think you should certainly get one if it's financially feasible for you.
If you are interested in playing video-games on your computer, I would suggest a form of dedicated GPU (Graphics Card).
nVidia GeForce GTX cards are known to be wonderful for gaming with minimal headaches, and I would suggest a GTX 960, 970, or 980. It is possible to use more than one GPU at a time, but that will not be necessary.
You can also look into AMD graphics solutions, but it's often more difficult to find a suitable GPU from AMD if you are a novice computer-er. On the contrary, AMD devices are generally less money to purchase.
