Author Topic: Illusion of constant forward motion.  (Read 571 times)

A while ago, I saw the Projectile_Tree thread and saw the post with "you can now hit people with trees" and thought "Oh, that's neat, moving bricks past in a loop!" I didn't realize these were tree projectiles and the ground moving.

Basically, what I want is something that moves bricks in a direction, then moves them back once they get out of a certain range, making it seem like other bricks were travelling infinitely Would this be possible? (Could this be done with any of the elevator brick mods?)

tl;dr: Something that makes bricks that move with the moving ground somehow, but that move back so they don't leave the area.

You can't move bricks.

You can move players, though. Maybe you can do something with physical zones.

Yeah the best thing you can do is make moving ground (& water, if necessary), and try to find a sky with moving clouds.  Align the ground (&water, ia) with the direction of the moving clouds)

So, like, passing scenery?

As if you're standing on a moving platform, but the platform is actually stationary, and buildings are passing you?

That sounds... difficult. The trees work because it's a projectile. If you did the same thing, you'd either have to have individual bricks as projectiles (probably ruined by any lag at all) or entire buildings or other scenery as enormous projectiles (I wish you luck with modeling)

There may be a better way to do this, but I don't know of it.

You couldn't have any detail but cubes with no textures, but it may be worth a try to use Xalos' elevator mod to move objects horizontally.  Also another drawback is that the server is only able to process a select number of bricks at once without it bugging up.
