That is a modem, I believe.
Odd, from my experience, and from a few others, this didn't work. Though it doesn't really make sense to go from your computer, router, modem, isp, back to the modem, router, then back to the same computer when you could just do a local connection.
the whole point of doing that is to test if your server is joinable lol

That is indeed a modem.
And that model has some port forwarding settings so you should be able to access it.
Although you might have to connect directly to it.

But it seems your modem uses a different subnetmask by default, so you will have to change your static IP to 192.168.2.188 for it to work. (plus all the default gateway stuff)

does that mean I should plug the ethernet from the modem into the laptop to directly and then set up a wired network and ill be able to access it through 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.2.1 ?

Yes, plug your laptop directly into your modem.
This will only work if you have set a static IP because it is your router that gives you one if you don't have one.
