Author Topic: Taking the ACT Tomorrow  (Read 1383 times)

Never took the act or sat. They were pretty useless exams six years ago.

I don't need to take any of them since I'm going to a community college.

Oh gosh the science section was insane. I had to guess on 2 out 5 or 6 sections even without spending time reading the information.
Just got back from taking mine. Wow science isn't science anymore. It's all math related junk that either asks you to look at a table and "figure out what student 1 and 2 are stuffting their pants about". The written part was even worse. "Our society has changed to a point where its no longer a norm to dress up when going out".

I mean, what!? Who writes these questions?

Science section of the ACT is super easy because they just give you the answers to the questions...
Got a 36 on that section.

The science section gives you a bunch of information and tells you to read it carefully. It then gives you barely enough time to skim for the information needed for the specific question. They call it science, but it's more "interpreting graphs section".

Just got done. Got a 25 last time.

The science section is easy now that I've taken it again but i took too long to read through all the stuff.

so yeah do what Seventh said and just read the questions the explanations to them are a waste of time.

yeah i had the same thing.

to which i just made stuff up as I went along. my writing was terrible last time (17) so if i at least break the 20s i'd be satisfied

Im going to be taking the AZMerit on the 28th of April. ACT wasn't that difficult (unless im thinking of something else)

took it twice, first time was like 28 second time was idk 24. stuffty questions, stuffty testing process. took an sat equivalent for some contest to win scholarships and scored around 1200, didn't count for anything though

I don't know if I can take it without getting a stuffty score. It takes me 6 hours to write an essay.

I got a 35 ^^

despite that i still almost didnt finish the science section. i did the last 5 questions in like 2 minutes or something, i'm glad they were all right (they weren't guesses)

unless you're really good at reading fast you can't read the entire science section. skip the preamble like seventh said and just skim where you know you can. they're just testing your comprehension of experiments and things

also if youre not good at math you should really study up on it. i don't think the math test really tests how good you are at computation so much as it tests how well you can compute things quickly with gimmicky stuff

don't worry about the essay, i don't think most colleges really give a stuff about it. i got an 8/12 and it doesn't seem to have affected where i was admitted

although if you want to go into a writing oriented career maybe they look at it? idk

I got a 35 ^^
jeez

what college will you go to with a score like that lol

Not anywhere special with only a high score. It seems like everyone applying to hard-hitting schools has those kinds of test scores nowadays. You've gotta do other crazy stuff to differentiate yourself.
