Yup, Movie Maker is rubbish and you can't really do anything with it. For a free solution I recently started using HitFilm 4 Express and can confirm that it works well. You do have to share it first in order to download it which is weird, but I just shared it with a G+ circle of 0 people :-)

I've used movie studio 12 and it's all you need and more
getting more advanced things like vegas pro or anything like that is useless if you just want to make blockland stuff with little special effects
