you overestimate what it takes to produce a TV show
Similarly I don't think you understand just what goes into making a TV show of that production level.  It takes a lot of talented and specialized people.

yeah, I'm sure it takes a lot of work, but it doesn't really require a lot of technical knowledge. it's pretty unlikely that they know any more about hacking than the average person. if they did, why would their representation of it be so abysmal? that's obviously not necessary, because Mr. Robot was significantly more accurate as far as that goes, and it didn't have any trouble with regular viewers

although I think I remember reading somewhere that whoever's in charge of that stuff for NCIS makes it ridiculous intentionally as a joke. to see how much they can get away with or something. and I guess I could believe that

yeah I think it's far, far more likely done on purpose for entertainment value, not cause the producers are some kind of autists
