Absolutely not. How rude!
In my household it's considered very rude to walk around with no shoes, as if we get attacked my spiders you'll be practically loving useless.

i don't wear shoes around the house unless i'm trying to break in a new pair, and idc if someone walk around with their shoes or not it don't bother me

This is like an alternate universe to my house haha.

I take them off usually, if Im staying for a while. Otherwise yes

If the floor is hard (tile, wood, etc) I will generally wear shoes unless I see whoever I am with take theirs off. If the floor is carpet, I will usually either ask whether I should take them off or just take them off.

After reading through your comments, I forget how nice where I live is. Since I live in San Diego, my shoes have never been muddy in their lifetimes. Once, my old pair of shoes got muddy, but I was in Miami. The bottom of my shoes are the color of the sole, but a little darker, and I've never washed them. Anyway, as a result nobody around here cares if you walk on their hard floors with shoes on, because there's virtually nothing to be tracked inside. If your shoes are dirty, then that is an uncommon ailment and most people would know that and take them off because they know they're dirty. However, it's pretty common for people to not want shoes on their carpet. It's also fairly (but less so, I'd say) common for people to not care because, again, the average pair of shoes here is not that dirty.

I don't wear shoes in my home because they're filthy on the bottom.

I live in alabama, and I'm not sure what the norm is. I know that my own family, including most of the extended parts, take their shoes off
but it's probably gonna be more local than a state or regional thing. around where I live, you're usually walking on bare ground (grass, dirt, bugs), like, a lot. particularly between your car and someone's home. but maybe in a bigger city there's not much of that, just concrete instead. although even then I'd be wary of tracking in god know's what from those sidewalks

I can't help but feel like a lot of you guys never clean your shoes.

If you've been outside then wipe them down good and proper on the doormat before coming in. If you've been wading through mud and stuff or you suspect you've stepped in something then take them off at the door and go spray them down in the shower for forgets sake.

Taking them off out of personal preference is fine, but if your only reasoning for taking them off is because they make the floors dirty then I feel like that is indicative of a different problem that is entirely of your own making.

why waste the effort washing your shoes every time you come into your house, instead of just taking them off at the door?
a lot of people even have mudrooms specifically for this purpose

i usually take off my shoes but some of my friends wear shoes in their house if they have hardwood floors or if their house is a dump

I take note of whether or not they do, and follow suit.

I usually take my shoes off for comfort unless told otherwise, or if there's work to be done.
