it sounds super lame but the original ps4's price is probably going to drop and i'll be getting that when it does lol
didn't think about this and i may buy a regular ps4 if its price goes down

Especially when you compare based on specs. If a PC user wants to only be on par with a console, that 5 years could be cut down considerably. Also gotta factor in PS+/XBL.
Yeah, you wont be able to "max out the graphics" but, lets be real. Medium settings are usually on par or better than the console's standards.
IIRC buying an HD TV, a PS4, 3 controllers and one 60$ game per month + PS+ for 5 years puts your PC budget of screen, components and all peripherals and games for 5 years at 4500$. If you sign up for Humble Monthey and buy games only from Steam sales, it should come under 4500$.

not even 4k its upscaled i think

According to Digital Foundry it's 1440p upscaled with some neat tricks to make it look the same. Apparently there are checkerboard artifacts when you pause the game. I have no idea what those look like, but apparently those are there.

1440p isnt good to upscale to or upscale from :\

should always be the 1080p/4k combo

"Console gaming is cheaper than PC gaming!"
- $400 console
"It can run 4K too, hah!"
- $400-$500 4k TV

End result: Almost as much as a gaming PC.
This is useless unless you're willing to buy the correct TV for it, and then, why not just get the PC?
( consoles are great tho so i'm not saying never buy consoles )

so do console gamers not own a computer at all? everyone has a computer. that existing cost is already added.

we are beyond the age where we need a different device for every purpose.

I think you may want to check that out yourself, I don't think I really understood it.

Apparently Last of Us will be native 4K if you run it in 30fps.

I thought 4K TV's cost like 1000-3000 dollarydoos.

EDIT: Holy stuff, how are TV prices this low? My 1080p 55 inch cost like 700€ and a store is selling a 44 inch 4K TV at the same price!

yeah but not all tvs are good. if you only want 4k then you can spend very little.
but a tv isnt something you replace every 2 years, it should age well. you want good quality colors and maybe even that oled now.

i wish all new tvs now has non smart versions you can buy for less. all that smart software bullstuff is for people who dont use computers/consoles/bluray players on a tv. and do those people even exist?

They're also for suckers who will buy "the best of everything", regardless if it's worth it or even necessary.

OP, some people just like convenient experiences. even though I prefer PC and I know how to use it decently, I find consoles nice for when I don't want to configure every little thing on my computer just to get a game going.

Almost all games work fine without having to adjust anything and newer ones typically auto adjust to settings they believe will give you stable FPS.
And at least the configuration exists.

There was going to be a reply here, but you need to download the 13 gigabyte day 1 patch first.

I would reply to that, but I need to update Windows. Be back in two hours.
