ITS PAST THE TIME BY LIKE 3 HOURS AND I STILL GOT IT FREE

fallout 2 and 3 are kinda eh. fallout 1 and nv are my favorites

in fallout new vegas you spend like the first 5 hours of the game chasing benny and the last 5 hours blowing up a dam / killing the loving 7 feet tall boss. it doesn't mesh together well and the story is built more like a DLC than an actual game. fallout nv is held together entirely by the side quests, and the slight variation in weapons (the gunplay doesn't do any favors)

You do not have to find Benny to begin the main quest. The problem is that you most likely just followed your map markers to your quest objectives and didn't realize that if you explored and interacted with the world more you might find alternative solutions them.

The non linear story is what makes it a real Fallout game. Fallout was a game about player choice and none of the installments came close to meeting that expectation until New Vegas was released. It's not a lack of cohesion; It's a story that is quite flexible and has a lot of depth. You were able to sum up the entire main plot of Fallout 3 in a few words--that's embarrassing.

Alternatively, that's how literally any story that has ever existed should be. You can summarize down just about any plot to its core points. Here's the main questlines for each of the Fallout games.

Fallout 1: Get a replacement water chip for the Vault.
Fallout 2: Stop the Enclave from enslaving your village.
Fallout 3: Finish Dad's work and bring water to the East Wasteland.
Fallout New Vegas: Whoever controls the Hoover Dam controls New Vegas.
Fallout 4: Conquer Boston under your chosen faction banner.

Let's pretend Tactics doesn't exist.

the only key difference between fallout 3 and fallout nv was more weapons

no the key difference are fallout nv had much better writers...... bethesda cant write. nv had obsidian entertainment
ur here arguing about the difference between f3 and nv and u didnt even mention this once
its an RPG after all. writing is very important. these fallout games came out before the big skyrim RPG boom

Bethesda seriously cannot write. Fallout 3's story was easier to follow because it was literally point A to B to C until you hit the end but it was hilariously nonsensical. Fallout 4's story loving sucked as well, it's legitimately easier to enjoy the game before you hit the "SYNTHS!!!!!!!!!!!" threshold and the game becomes a sci-fi comedy.

NV's story wasn't massively complex but that's probably a good thing. Obsidian's writing talent really comes to life when you pay attention to what's happening around you. In Fallout 4 you're better off ignoring what's around you lest you find a 200 year old child in a fridge, and in Fallout 3 there's nothing to ignore in the first place.

That's because it's not past the time

not gonna lie, I agree.

The first two may have been huge amazing games at the time but I'm far too used to the modern ones to have any fun with the first 2.
