Archaic? Definitely.
Poorly optimized? In my experience, on bad hardware, Source was considerably faster than other games with a similar visual quality. Your mileage may vary, I guess?
Nowhere near UE4 or even Unity? I agree, they're definitely better engines. I wasn't trying to argue that Source was better.

In any case, I was referring to the fact that you brought up an opinion (not a particularly radical one, mind you) I held years ago, out of nowhere, as a "reminder" that my opinion was irrelevant. I wouldn't go around saying stuff like "reminder that this person opposes gay marriage" to discredit their opinions on totally unrelated topics.

Wait, what? My GTX 960 can handle Garry's Mod with no problems. I mean, obviously it chokes if you try to spawn 5000 explosive barrels and detonate them, but not in normal use.

No, because Blockland isn't of comparable visual/graphical quality (and to be honest, it's actually pretty slow on old or cheap hardware when a lot of bricks are visible).

People seem to think I'm saying Source is an amazing engine. It's not. I'm just sharing my experience that Source games run much better on older or cheaper hardware than other games with similar visual quality.

since we are on the subject the ssource i do recall dota 2's engine was run on source 2 if that's correct

source was an incredibly optimized engine in the past but it's now this mess of legacy code and shiny bits held loosely together with duct tape. it runs like stuff on anything remotely modern and is prone to crashing. i love source but it needs to be put to rest.
