Author Topic: Blockland as a game creator?  (Read 2884 times)

Hey all! RyanThunder here.

Just recently purchased this game, and I definitely like what I see. Seeing all you guys build your complex buildings and all, I thought of a pretty neat idea.

What if there was a feature in Blockland that allowed you to export all of your levels as one, cohesive stand-alone game? You could make cutscenes, enemies, and all sorts of stuff. You could even make it a RPG, platformer, or FPS.

I thought this would be really cool. What do you guys think?

No one in the blockland community would waste their time on doing all that. We're lazy (Speaking for myself)

It's a nice idea, but wouldn't be used.

Cant really make a stand alone game, but you can certainly host servers with that kind of stuff.

by cant really I mean Badspot would never go through the trouble of making something that complex.

Use Torque, it's what Blockland was built on. And besides, why export when we can have everything in one game?

Stupid idea.

Way to offer constructive criticism...

Anyway, Ryan, it is possible from within the Blockland to make your own games. We have seen several comprehensive mods such as Rotondo's zombie mod which do contain new features for the user.

Cinematics is a tough one but might be possible using some kind of observer cam/bot hack. Would only be for the serious coder.

Many have at least started RPG mods (aloshi, bushi, rky, ecty) and most have some form of currency and use of items. Given more effort, some could become great games in their own right.

Platformers and FPSs are already possible using the minigame system and recently a 2D minigame add_on was released so you can make mario-like games.

Its all a matter of creativity and talent.

Same, this newb has some potential.

Btw you can try and make it on your own. If you do make something, and like what you have, don't be a noob and post it in the add-ons section saying, "THIS IS MY BEST ADD-ON EVER!!!!!!!11!" No one will respect that. Just a tip to help you out.

I want to be able to make cut scences D:

record them with FRAPS

Haha, thanks for the compliments guys! I've been around the block more than once as far as MMO's and forums go, so I know what and what not to do. It also helps that I'm 22 years old, you know?

Yea, I saw the recent 2D_View add-on, and I'll probably just end up making a sweet 2D level for players to play in. I could use bots as enemies, and even have a multiplayer 2D deathmatch arena in the same level as well.

As far as making RPG's goes, I'll probably just tinker around with that Torque game creator in the future sometime and see if it's worth delving myself into.

No but I can't code it, I am thinking it would be just like having a check point brick then when passed plays the cut scene but I have not skill like that.
