Just a window that shows your "buddies" and if they are online/offline and what server they are in as well as ping + player count

Oh God...

Anyway, just as a theory, it should track player ID not names, as you can change your name in a matter of seconds >.>

RTB 2.1,  Thanks.
Are you starting with 2.1, or with 2.0 and have a planed upgrade to 2.1?

RTB 2.1,  Thanks.
Thanks Ephi, since it isn't possible to access the Blockland database if you aren't the staff of RTB or Badspot.
+1 Epic Point for Ephi

You could make a system through IRC, You make it import a list, then make it ping the lists players (Of course the players would have to be on IRC) And if the ping returns of the player then they are online, puts the player onto a scroll bar. PMing would be easy to make.

You would not be able to detect if a player joined a server, and which server.
(Unless you include a script that sends the server name and information to the IRC)

Haha, no.

yeah, that would suck, better would be a irc bot,
when you get online, your client automatically sends a message to the bot, telling him that he is online.
This put's the player in the refresh list, a list, frequently checked by the irc bot.
This way, only one person/bot/client has to ping the other players,  all players just get the online status from the bot.

But, well, I think there will be a webscript, that rtb2 is using to get the status of the players, well, the players send the status.

Messages would also be possible over web, already did all that stuff.

Again no. Firstly, your plan can easily allow people into tricking the bot that they are somebody they're not, which would clearly suck because you'd never be sure you were talking to your buddy, or some cigarette pretending to be your buddy.

Secondly, Our web host doesn't allow us to host IRC bots so we're having to devise a plan that doesn't involve an irc bot, and also enforces a system to make sure that the person trying to message someone is in-fact who they claim to be. It's certainly coming along, but its definitely not the way I would have liked to have done it.

Yeah, that's a problem I've always had...
Will you introduce a Account System to fix that?^^

Nope, already got a plan in mind.
