Badspot doesn't like those 'quote pyramids', so look out!

Loligi, what file did you download that gave the virus alert?

And what software did you use?
AVG 7.5 is good (free to)  It cleared 4 trojans off my comp today.  All the same just in different user accounts.
1 question:
can viruses be picked up by simply visiting a web page?

Yay you added to the pyramid... I dunno.

Only a very few websites can. The owner of that paticular website gives it a very catchy name as as soon as you enter it POP.

It really depends. Tracking cookies can be picked up pretty easily but they aren't infectious evil destruction things(for the most part) and can easily be removed.

Interesting, I've been virus free for almost a year, and I download crap all the time. But thats because I'm intellegent and know what to download and what not to. Don't goto sites like msn.akiw211.com cause thats not msn.com, thats akiw211.com. Also don't goto crap like www.freevirusscaan.com or www.cleanyourcomputernow.net, use a professional virus scanner. The only time I had to get one of those kinds of virus scanners is when one wouldn't go away (almost a year ago). I download one, and scan with another scanner, sometimes it would be like "This program is a virus, it tells you it finds a virus, and wants you to pay money to get rid of nothing." And I think, 'wtf, free scan, but then I have to pay for it to do anything? loving starfishs...' then I delete it. I finally found one that was absolutely free, with an optional payment for a few side features like auto updates and auto protection (yeah i know this is included in most programs, BUT NOTHING WAS GETTING RID OF THE DAMN VIRUS I HAD). So, I downloaded it, scanned, bam, got me clean, thanked the program, and said farewell. Since then I've been clean, and it wasn't even that bad of a virus, just something that tricks you by saying it the computer has an error, and wants you to goto a site to 'fix' it, by paying like $30. (how ironic, I tried to use 50 similar programs to get rid of it.) [/rant]

Edit: Killed links with about:blanks.
