Author Topic: Proximity Events  (Read 1023 times)

Could someone post a DL link for them, they were unfairly removed.

If you don't know what they are:
You set it to something like 55 and then set it to do something, So you can make it so that if a player come within 55 bricks of this brick and alarm will go off :)

(Must have been available to use for everyone.)

When a player enters the proximity of 99999999999 then that player dies.

I'm assuming this was failed?
I would use it, but not for servers that allow building. still... that doesn't mean everyone wouldn't.

Erm, onplayertouch works for this.......
EDIT: Also, it was most likely failed because of the possible abuse of what the above poster said....

It was failed because of what ROFL said. However, I think it should be left available. People just shouldn't use it for public building servers.

However, I think it should be left available.

It's a good thing you're not in charge.

Well perhaps it should be reposted with a limit on how far it goes, like 60 or so.

Yeah, now all you gotta do is wait for someone to be bothered to add a limit.

It would still be terrible and it would still be doing a god awful infinite loop radius check programmed by some pre-teen.

The exact same problem could be done with a baseplate under the spawn doing setPlayerTransform loops.

You are given 2.5 seconds 'invincibility' from Player Touch events when you first spawn. The same would probably not apply to proximity events, and in any case it's harder to escape a 60-brick radius around a massive cube than to jump, jet, etc. off just the brick itself.

Or the default events. The ones Badspot created himself.

<snip>

Traps the client who touched it in a respawn loop.
No add-on events, aka it's possible in any server.

(If it's too abusive I can just edit it out...)

The thing is to both of these. You cant get out of them if you were unaware of the events on the brick, and touched it.
There are 3 ways out.
1) Break the brick.
However, can only be done if you have trust with the person.
2) Start a minigame.
Cannot be done if the defaultMinigame mod is installed, and you aren't an admin.
3) Leave the server.
You may be there to see friends, do you really want to leave?

Still activating any event loop-trap requires you to touch a brick at the very least.  Since you're immune to ontouch for a bit when you spawn, the damage is limited.  The proximity events make it possible to ruin an entire server with a single brick.

In the future if there's some sort of terrible thing you can do with events to break the game, just send it to me via pm or email.
