Author Topic: Help with Connecting Monitor to Laptop?  (Read 2184 times)

All I can find about this are things telling me to press fn f5 or go to like display something on the control panel. My screen is broken and the fn thing won`t work though. It looks like it works at the beginning but it just switches back to the laptop after it loads. Help? (I have an Acer laptop running vista)

plug it into the slot. Done.

Whats the exact model?

Usually for laptops you have to press FN+one of the F# keys at the top. For me, it's FN+F8. Be careful of what you push though.

Plug it in

Right click on desktop

Properties

Settings or something near the right most.

Mess with settings here. If you don't know what something does, press it.

My screen is broken
Lern2reed hurr durr

It's an Acer Aspire 4315-2490. F5 should work because that's where the box-then-arrow-to-filled-in-box symbol is. I pressed every F key though and it screwed it up a little until I restarted it.

plug monitor in back
turn laptop on
wait a while (for it to load windows or goto logon screen)
close laptop lid

thats how I did it when my screen cracked down the middle.

I had my laptop screen replaced though (thank god for ebay)

You have to hold the F modifier key, or the key will just act like a normal F5 key.  Kind like holding shift to get capital letters.

It should have Fn and Screen keys. Hold Fn and press screen to cycle through options.
