Bodies also gib when you shoot them with the Gluon Gun, Tau cannon and other weapons. So you say I don't know my Half-life. In the begging of the game you play as Gordan Freeman, you ride the tram and see some of the parts of Black Mesa. Once you gtet off you can wander around and destroy the microwave castrole that belongs to Dr.Mag,(you can also see the Gman argueing with another scientist. Then you get the HEV and get in the test chamber and push the Xen crystal and create a cascade and you are teleported to Xen. You return to the test chamber and the military arrives moments later, but the military didn't come to rescue you. Then you run around collecting weapons and killing stuff. Then you go to Xen and kill the Nihilanth causing portals from Xen to open on Earth in which the 7hour war starts. At the end Gman offers you a job, accept or Decline.
