Author Topic: Input monitoring with my guitar  (Read 845 times)

Earlier today I went and bought this http://www.amazon.com/LightSnake-STUSBG10-USB-Instrument-cable/dp/B000H7LBB8 hoping to use my computer as a guitar amp while my actual amp is in storage. I plugged it in and it was working fine I could record my guitar playing but when I enabled input monitoring (makes the input sound come out of your speakers while your recording) it had a slight delay, enough to throw you off. I tried messing with the preferences but couldn't fix it.

Has anyone done this before, or is there some other free ware program that I can use?

You ordered something and got it in less then a day?

Just an example of what it is, I actually got it on sale at Hastings for 30$

I have used direct line input methods with my mac, and you are never going to avoid delay if you are using the computer as your amp.

However, in order to record my guitar playing, I hook the guitar up first to my amp, and then use the line-out or headphone jack to hook up to the computer, giving the same sound as my amp with no delay at all.

So sorry, but you are never going to avoid delay.

An example of my guitar-amp-computer setup for recording.  The guitar sounds much better than on some old songs I did where I recorded the amp with a microphone.

Disclaimer, the above song is from a long time ago and is mostly crap (especially the drums).
