mkay, well...
EA skate is more realistic, you can explore a big city with multiple places to skate, and its different every time, there are a lot of challenges, online skating, online contests, probably over 100 tricks you can pull, and in skate 2, there are more reasons like...
even more realistic, more tricks, you can move stuff around, bail just for fun, more places to go, and more contests etc.
Is that enough reasons for you hm?
I wish I could punch you in the face. Skate isn't in the same league as the original THPS games, it's not even from the same era you moron. THPS was arcade-style, the point wasn't to create a simulator, it was to create a fun game, and they did that job well. THPS1 is a large piece of my childhood, right next to Perfect Dark, LOZ:OOT, and Goldeneye.
Skate, on the other hand, is gritty and semi-realistic. I've played skate and I own skate2. The Tony Hawk games (before Project 8 oh god) were far better in every single way. The stupid-ass "realism" only serves to make the game as frustrating as possible. The controls are wonky, the movement is clunky, and the game is ridiculously hard for absolutely no reason. Not to mention the camera angles suck stuff.
Excuses I hear most often are:
(Relating to the camera)"It's supposed to look like someone following with a handi-cam!"
Yeah, bullstuff. That theme works for Cloverfield or the Blair Witch Project, but I don't like looking at my feet when I'm trying to get stuff done.
"The Game isn't hard, you just have to practice!"
forget. You. Why in the HELL would I practice for hours on end to get good at a SKATEBOARDING GAME when I could more effectively spend that time actually learning how to skateboard? (I own a pro board btw) This excuse is just that, an excuse. The blind lead the blind, they say.
"There's another camera option!"
It makes the camera a few feet higher, but I'm still not off-center. I cannot see stuff in front of me when I am literally in my own way (this does not help when you're careening down a hill at top speed). It's like trying to walk with my hand in front of my eyes. THPS had this down, just put the character to the right of the screen like every other third-person game. It hasn't changed because IT WORKS.
"The game isn't hard, you just suck!"
That is so completely irrelevant I can't even express how stupid you have to be to say that. A game design rule of the universe is to make your game playable to
everyone. Now you know why "easy mode" is so easy, while "hard mode" is so hard. I should be able to pick up your game with no knowledge of it and play it effectively, just the same as a veteran would be rewarded by playing hard mode. This game has neither. It's just difficult. I actually spent almost 4 hours and 168 attempts just to beat that stupid trick session.
To summarize: THPS/UG were perfection. They were fun, yet challenging, but never impossible. They were one of the few games that you could do nothing with a couple friends in and still have loads of fun back in the day. This is why skate will never come close to being nearly as good.
