Is the risk lowered using a powerstrip?
I actually don't think it would.
Most of the time computer failure from a power loss or whatever is because it just forgeted up the power supply in some way.
That's probably when using a power strip that prevents that kind of stuff would help. Thankfully my power strip somehow is magically better than my brothers even though they're both the same, so whatever lol.

I turn off my computer quite a lot when it's booting. I never unplug it though, but I hold down power.

Who unplugs their computer anyway?

I rip out my laptops battery and unplug it when for some reason the damn thing clogs up and decides to slow to half the speed of a turtle.

Only in the case of a power outage when you are booting up, which is the ultimate irony.

When reading data, the instant cutting off connection from the program with the data can defiantly lead to corruption of core files. This not only happens with booting up, but also sometimes when you rip out a USB stick or other situations of the sort.
