Author Topic: Help me pick a subject  (Read 1250 times)

I have to pick a subject to write about for a research essay in my english class.

I'm stuck between two topics, but I'm also looking for some other opinions.

The two topics I'm stuck between are:
  • Should the federal government provide health care for all citizens who cannot afford their own?
  • Do violent video games and movies really affect the behavior of the kids that play or watch them?

so gimme some help will ya

You could go for the health care one and see how your essay looks once your done, if you're not happy with it, you could always go for the second subject

I'd do that, but my topic is due by the end of the day tomorrow

The second topic is so easy.

Little kids come to Blockland, and eventually turn into mini-a-holes that like to swear, cuss, and generally hate others.  These forums GIVE you a huge example.

I really don't think that them being vulgar has anything to do with the very small violent part of blockland lol

Oh, but you are missing my point!  Blockland affects the children, as violence affects the children.

Children just soak up stuff like a sponge and then release it as they walk.

1. Forums are discussion boards, not games.
2. Picking a subject about video games and violence and then only using Blockland as an example will be pretty inaccurate.

I don't mean him to USE Blockland as an example in his essay.  His teacher would not only be confused, but it has nothing to to with violence.  I'm proving a point by stating that children are easily influenced.  Now all he needs are examples that he does the work himself to find.

Yes, they are easily influenced, and games aren't the only influence.
Also being an online game, it's actually the parent's responsibility lol

I'm skeptic about this statement. Any vulgarity I had back when I first joined the forums I'd learned from my peers at school.

The internet in general, at anything, is more to blame than a game or a specific internet forum.

I guess I should clarify that by me saying "violent video games affect the behavior of children", I'm saying "do violent games make kids violent".

Plus, if I chose option 2, I could easily use Penn & Teller's "Bullstuff" as a source.

Hah, there ya go!  Having that greater spectrum of insight is exactly what the person grading is looking for.  If you back it up well, that should get you a high grade indeed.

Go write about the first one. Second one seems ok, but I'd rather see the teacher's reaction to the first one.

The second one is pretty easy to discuss. True, kids will change behaviorally but if they are taught properly how to game then they will always be calm.
