No, You need to have your ship fully upgraded (yaaay resource scanning) for most of them to survive

When i played through it i lost like all but 3 people :(

Only boring people nobody cares about because they just stand in your ship doing nothing die if you don't go right away

You only need to do this for your squadmates to survive.
For the non-essential crew you need to go straight to the collector base.
