Hamachi is a program most people use to avoid port-forwarding, even though it requires you to port-forward.

LAN parties without being near each other is kinda the use of Hamachi =P

Or for virtual LAN parties.

I usually play Red Alert 3 with other friends with Hamachi because it straight forward works without any port forwarding.
