Author Topic: This would change the way maps are made forever.  (Read 1606 times)

What if you could open a program, and be given a flat grassy slatish area? you could change the texture, make mountains, give the mountains different textures, design and add objects to the map, with just a click, and a upload to RTB button, add water, edit maps, use a tunnel tool to build tunnels? And also dont flame me. It would be so cool! Map making would be easier. (MUCH easier.

Called the Mission Editor, just no tunneling, as that would break the game.

Try "different engine".

The Cryengine does all of that, albeit it's not easy. Hammer isn't easy either. The straight fact is that mapping is not easy, even with prefabs, and most typically map editing cannot even be done dynamically. What you're asking for is an entirely new engine and unrealistic demands.

The objects must already be made, though.

Mission Editor lets you edit the terrain and textures in many ways. You can place a water block or usually just move the existing one in some maps around for water heights, plus there are lots of things included in Blockland or the default add-ons for tree statics and objects. It's possible to make holes in the terrain but you'd need to use a .dif maker e.g. Torque Constructor to produce anything to fit in the gap with a ceiling and floor as a tunnel. Then you can just save it to somewhere with a button press and move the files around a little to make it work as a proper map.

youre not gettin what im sayin.

youre the only one not gettin what they sayin

It would take much longer just making this user-friendly engine than just making all the maps you've ever dreamed of.

You mean something like that in Crysis, or Farcry 2?
