Author Topic: How do I add friends on steam?  (Read 732 times)

Yeah, I probably sound handicapped.
I know you have to buy a game or something like that, but if I gift someone a game, can I be friends with someone?

as long as you own a game you can add me

I'll gift you a game if you pay me back for it. :cookieMonster:

No. Buy a game yourself than go to the community tab and on a player's profile it will say "add as friend"

Eh.
Are there any cheap things? :c

Why do you have Steam and don't want any games?

I only wanted steam to connect to other people on the forums.
And I wanted to play games with other people.
:/

How would you do that if you have no games?

There is a tab on the store page that says Games under 5$ buy some there

How would you do that if you have no games?
> add non-steam game

you can do that to add friends? :O

you can do that to add friends? :O
it says that on add a game

you can do that to add friends? :O
Nope!

Adding a non-steam game doesn't do crap (to my knowledge), but if you have friends it's easier to coordinate in games using the STEAM overlay (when it isn't broken).

Non-Steam games added to your Steam Library works as normal Steam Games, partially.

Here's what it does and what it does not:

Does:

Gives you the ability to use Steam Overlay in-game. So you don't need to Alt+Tab, like in MSN.
Changes your status in green color and uses "In Non-Steam Game [Game]" instead of "Online" in blue.]
It works as a Shortcut, no need for any additional information or anything, it's like running the Shortcut on your Desktop.

Does not:

Update your Playing Time.
Update your "verified" status so you can Add Friends.
Update your Steam Rating.
Unlock anything special, it's like you would use the game normally, with the Steam Overlay.

Period.

On the other hand, I used Notepad and made a custom name for it. I typed "Steam" in there, my Steam Status shown alike "In Non-Steam game: Steam".
2 people messaged me after that and went "WTF?".
