Author Topic: Cusomizable Weapons mod (suggestion)  (Read 943 times)

I cannot do this because honestly i'm clueless when it comes to modeling and scripting, but my suggestion is that, someone (anyone) should make a (Somewhat-big) Pack of parts of (real or imaginary) gun/weapon parts, like handles and blades, hilts and guards of swords/melee weapons, and grips,foregrips, lights, sights, stocks,colors, etc... of gun models and make it all in one pack and you can collect parts and interchange them on a weapon, and even name/save your created weapons to the server, and to make customization easier, include a GUI to help with it, and have the GUI give a preview of how your weapon will look.

Now as i said before, dont count on me to make this because i said i'm completley clueless when it comes to scripting or modeling, but anyone that feels like taking up the challenge can do this, and just to keep this post alive, why not post pictures of cool parts or whole weapons you'd would love to interchange with one another.

Even if this never becomes a reality, isn't still a nice thought?

Summary:
Customizable Weapons,
Melee:Blade, Handle, Hilt, Guard, Color, Hammer Head, Axe Head, Point
Ranged: String, Bow, Thrown, Shot, Ammunition, Body, Stock, Sight, Etc. atatchments (Laser pointer, Flashlight, foregrip, etc.), Barrel, Grip/handle, Clip, Strap

If you have any other idea's as to what you could add to this, Please, I encourage you to.

* EUREKA!* I thought of a way to make this possible (still im not too sure, but it sounds reasonable). Ok, the new way i had thought to make this possible without completley creating a new add-on every time it made a new weapon, is make it controlled through RTB server prefs.
Ok, here is how it could work:

Custom weapons : [3]   [Number of weapons to be created] *for every weapon there is it creates a new button in the RTB prefs *maybe only 5-10 weapons allowed*, that opens a GUI, and the GUI would read:*

Name: Melee/ranged 1-10
Type : Melee/Ranged
Ammo : [Arrows/Bullets/Rockets/Nades]
Damage : [1-200]
Secondary fire : [Sights/Nade L./Melee/etc.]
Clip Size : [1-150] *1-30 assault/1-25 rifle/1-10 Handgun/1-8 Sniper/ 1-150 LMG*
Gun type : [Assault/Rifle/Handgun/Sniper/LMG/Launcher]
Edit Apearance *This button would open a GUI like the Player apearance editor, only this time it's with a gun/Melee weapon*
And lastly there would be a publish button.

So what do you guys say?

And for those people who say IMPOSSIBLE!! just make the gun customizing GUI like the player appearance thing, the helmet goes on the head, and the cape around the neck, so with the gun one, Barrel on the front, sight on top, grip underneath, and like the visor with the helmet, make things like foregrip and nade L. only available with certain other things, like barrel and body, equipped.
*P.S. Make it so you have to restart the server for effects to take place :0    Derp :D)

Yes i do, i requested it the first, the second was some random guy, and im doing it again because my other topic was too old, and I'm not just commenting on it or anything, i basically added a whole new thing to it. (Yea idk if this could count as spam or not but w/e)

I think this mgiht spam the console because if everyone is editing the things on the server, it has to go through the console right? I think this would be a bad idea in my opinion.

Perhaps you can edit the damage ingame with a addon, but, there is no way to change the looks. You would have to make a new datablock everytime, and that would crash everyone but the host because a new datablock was made.

You do realize this can result in a huge amount of combinations resulting to a huge amount of space taken in the users computer.

...If used in small portions... Like different individual packs and stuff... Oh god yes...

The player appearance editor doesn't spam the Console now does it? :p

Well...

Damage, projectile type, projectile speed, and the clip could be adjusted by the script for each instance.

Possibly with mount points and skins, you could have a few base weapons that visual attachments are added to.

So, with a few base appearances, everything else is fairly customizable (but to support a reasonable ammount of actions, the sequences would be a disasterous mess...) If further images can be mounted on one weapon image, then you only need an item for each muzzle location, and everything else can be attached.

But, however, the results might be fairly disasterous if anyone with too little experience or too inflexible a mind tried. Plus, balance issues.


(I have had a similar idea, without the customization of appearances. I just never got around to working on it, but I would have had a bit of an RPG where you collect points that are used to select the desired upgrades and projectile types. More points = more customization, costs for sequenial upgrades would grow with each upgrade (damage +1 might be 1 point, damage +2 might be 3, adding another point for damage +3 might cost a total of 6 points...) and other fun things (cluster grenades! Customize the projectile that comes out! (Recursive clusters would cost a lot, though)))

To be honest, I actually have a good idea of how to make something like this-but you might want to wait till v19 or v20 to let me finish and release it-it might just kill a computer.
